what’s your love poem?
How neat would it be to transform your favorite love poem into a 3-D candle? Or perhaps have your wedding vows bounce light off onto the walls? Well, it looks like that’s all possible now thanks to a great new product, Shapeways Creator!
And in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m so happy to say that one of my lovely blog readers will be able to make their own words come light! Between now and Thursday (2/12), simple leave a comment on this post with the words you would use for your candle! On Friday morning, I’ll select one comment (via random number generator) to receive their prize!
I can’t wait to see the lovely romantic words that you have to share! :)

I would use our wedding vows!
I, Sam, take you Krista, to be my lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, forsaking all others from this day forward till death do us part.

I have been looking for a way to share this unique poem with my husband. We are both big fans of the Shrek quote, “Ogre’s are like onions, we have layers.” And I love how expressive yet not overly sentimental this poem is.
Onion Poem
Valentine by
by Carol Ann Duffy
Not a red rose or a satin heart.
I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.
Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.
I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.
I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.
Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.
JaymeLyn
“I have for the first time found what I can truly love–I have found you. You are my sympathy–my better self–my good angel–I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.”
goodness, i love me some Jane Eyre.

I would use the lyrics to our first dance on our wedding day. :)
“And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It’s you, it’s you, You make me sing
You’re every line, you’re every word, you’re everything.”
ducksandbooks
I would just put the word “love” in lots of different languages. Or just alternate Love Ahava, English and Hebrew.
Alison
Our history books refer to it
In cryptic little notes,
It’s quite a common topic on
The Transatlantic boats;
I’ve found the subject mentioned in
Accounts of suicides,
And even seen it scribbled on
The backs of railway-guides.
Does it howl like a hungry Alsatian,
Or boom like a military band?
Could one give a first-rate imitation
On a saw or a Steinway Grand?
Is its singing at parties a riot?
Does it only like Classical stuff?
Will it stop when one wants to be quiet?
O tell me the truth about love.
WH Auden’s “O Tell Me the Truth About Love”
Lori
I would use the lyrics from our first dance song. It was a Metallica song and it was just perfect!
So close, no matter how far
Couldn’t be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
and nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All these words I don’t just say
and nothing else matters
Trust I seek and I find in you
Every day for us something new
Open mind for a different view
and nothing else matters

“Quiero hacer contigo lo que la primavera hace con los cerezos.”
Translation: “I want to do with you what spring does with cherry trees.” Pablo Neruda

i like this winnie the pooh quote:
if ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…i’ll always be with you
this hit close to home since the bf and i are in an ldr.
Michelle
I would include words that are significant to our relationship:
Scandia
Maui
Laughter
Family
Hugs
Love
Folsom
Movies
Together
Happy
Handdancing
Sara
I would use some or all of the lyrics from our first dance song (depending on what can fit).
Stay WIth You – John Legend
We’ve been together for a while now
We’re growing stronger everyday now
It feels so good and there’s no doubt
I will stay with you as each morning brings sunrise
And the flowers bloom in springtime
On my love you can rely
And I’ll stay with you
Oh I’ll stay with you through the ups and the downs
Oh I’ll stay with you when no one else is around
And when the dark clouds arrive
I will stay by your side
I know we’ll be alright
I will stay with you
Though relationships can get old
They have the tendency to grow cold
We have something like miracle
Yeah, and I’ll stay with you
Oh I’ll stay with you through the ups and the downs
Oh I’ll stay with you when no one else is around
And when the dark clouds arrive
I will stay by your side
I know we’ll be alright
I will stay with you
And there will be heartaches and pains, yes it will
But through it all, we will remain
In this life, we all know
Friends may come, and they may go
Through the years I know
I will stay
And in the end I know that we’ll find
Love so beautiful and divine
We’ll be lovers for the lifetime, yeah
And I’ll stay with you
I will stay with you
Oh I’ll stay with you through the ups and the downs
Oh I’ll stay with you when no one else is around
And when the dark clouds arrive
I will stay by your side
I know we’ll be alright
I will stay with you
Everything will be fine
And I will stay with you
Through the end of time
I will stay with you
Heidi
I’d use the end of “The Union” by Robert Fulghum, which was one of our readings at our wedding.
“For after today you shall say to the world –
This is my husband. This is my wife.”
Short, simple and sweet.
Katie R
first dance too :)
Love is the answer
At least for most of the questions in my heart ,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
It’s not always easy,
And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I’ll tell you one thing, its always better when we’re together
Just found your blog. Love it! Thanks for sharing! Happy valentines day!
Katie R
PS. Are you a bee?!?
kimberly michelle
As in the WB … yup yup! I’m the crotchety old bee known as Mrs. Lemon :)
Katie
It’s so hard to pick just one thing! My first idea was to use the lyrics of our wedding song (Brad Paisley’s Little Moments). But I think I’d have to go with:
True love doesn’t have a happy ending because true love doesn’t end.
Jessica
How cool is that! I’d use a few lines from the e.e. cummings poem that will be part of our wedding ceremony:
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
McCaulie
I love these and I agree with Katie it is so hard to pick one thing! In the end, however, I’d have to go with our wedding vows:
Geoff, my husband’s vows:
I promise to encourage your compassion,
Because that is what makes you unique and wonderful.
I promise to nurture your dreams,
Because through them your soul shines.
I promise to help shoulder our challenges,
For there is nothing we cannot face if we stand together.
I promise to be your partner in all things,
Not possessing you, but working with you as a part of the whole.
Lastly, I promise to you love and trust,
For one lifetime with you could never be enough.
This is my sacred vow to you, my equal in all things.
My vows:
I promise to encourage your individuality,
Because that is what makes you unique and wonderful.
I promise to nurture your dreams,
Because through them your soul shines.
I promise to help shoulder our challenges,
Because through them we’ll emerge stronger.
I promise to be your partner in all things,
Not possessing you, but working with you as a part of the whole.
I promise to share with you the joys of life,
Because with you they will be that much sweeter.
Lastly, I promise to you love and trust,
For one lifetime with you could never be enough.
This is my sacred vow to you, my equal in all things.
Laura K
I think I’d put this quote that I really like:
“Love fills the moment
and the moment begins eternity
Love fills a lifetime
and a lifetime begins this day.”
staceyb
I think I’d use lyrics from Jason Mraz’s song Lucky… it wasn’t our first dance but I love it anyways, and think it applies to us. :)
I’m lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I’m lucky we’re in love in every way
Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed
Lucky to be coming home someday
Erin
I would use the lyrics to our first dance, “Wouldn’t it be nice” by the Beach Boys:
Wouldnt it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldnt have to wait so long
And wouldnt it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong
You know its gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldnt it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
Happy times together weve been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending
Wouldnt it be nice
Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldnt be a single thing we couldnt do
We could be married
And then wed be happy
Wouldnt it be nice
You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But lets talk about it
Wouldnt it be nice
Amanda
I would love part of our ketubah:
You are my best friend, my hopes and future, my strength, my soulmate. Standing proudly beside you, in your eyes I see my love, and in your heart I see my dreams, and in our promise I see a union, true and steadfast, uniquely devoted to compassion, kindness, and sincerity. Through all time and space, there has been no love like ours, and our story will unfold with beauty, grace and meaning.
Teale
I’m a lurker, but decided to de-lurk for your contest!
I love the following from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet:
You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Denise
I would put our vows:
I promise to love you, to respect you, to laugh with you, and to cry with you. I promise to share my life openly and honestly with you, in good times and in bad, to nurture your growth and happiness, and to help you realize your dreams. From this time on, your family will be my family, and your future, my future.
Jenna
How did I miss that this was a contest?
I think I would go with this:
“A small dwelling in the wild meadow would be enough if you were there with me.”
-Japanese love poem
There are others which are very lovely, but I figure I can only have so many words on my candle (because you know I am going to win).
Lucy
Mine is not so overly romantic, but meaningful to us!
“This is happiness: to be dissolved in something complete and great.”
Willa Cather
virginia
Oo me too!
So hard to pick but I’d probably do something related to our faith. Maybe the timeless words to a hymn, like “Great is thy Faithfulness.” That one has double meaning because I walked down the aisle to a solo piano rendition of it. :)
“Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”
Jennifer
Jenna, I totally missed the contest too!!
I would probably use the quote that is literally the foundation of our entire wedding:
and you,
a windrose, a compass,
my direction, my description of the world.
-Ian Burgham
E @ Oh!Apostrophe
I would put our first dance song lyrics!
If I was the sun way up there
I’d go with love most everywhere
I’ll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I’m still around
That’s how strong my love is, oh
That’s how strong my love is,
That’s how strong my love is, baby, baby,
That’s how strong my love is….
Jen
I would use the lyrics from Phantom (our first dance song and our wedding invitations)
Say you’ll share with me one love, one lifetime
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me, that’s all I ask of you.
Lindsey
There are so beautiful…there are so many options…its so hard to choose.
I think I would either use:
“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.”
or
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart…I’ll always be with you.”
I love Winnie the Pooh
or I might choose our wedding vows.
