Give a little support… with Operation Baking GALS
.
.
Now, if you’re like me, you may absolutely adore baking but loathe having dozens of cookies staring you down on the counter each day. That’s why I love baking and then giving away… so this is a perfect outlet just for that! Heck, licking the dough off the spoon is always the best part, right? So this next month, I signed up to send goodies to two different groups of soldiers through Operation Baking GALS, and I think I’ll try my best to keep up this tradition as often as I can.
.
Here’s a lovely flow chart to show how the operation actually works:
.
As you can see above… each team leader organizes a group to send goodies to a known soldier. They gather the efforts of up to 20 team members/bakers to create an awesome set of deliveries for the soldier and their friends/unit members. Everyone ships their packages within a 10 day window of time, so they get this wonderful barrage of treats in a 2-week time period! If you’ve ever been away from home and gotten a package of treats, you know just how immensely special that feeling is!
.
Here are the basics of participating in a Baking GALS round:
.
1) Register for an account at their website (in order to have access to sign up for groups). The approval process isn’t instant, and you may have to wait 1-3 days to get approved.
.
2) Go back and log-in to the website once you’re approved. Read the “Newbie’s Guide” to orient yourself on the site and how to participate.
.
3) Sign up for a group, read the details about the recipients (watch for food allergy issues), and get yourself baking!
.
4) When your package is ready, and the shipping window has arrived, send out your FLAT RATE APO box (only $12.50 to ship it!) and your goodies are off to someone who will truly appreciate them!d
.
Is anyone else out there a fellow Operation Baking GALS enthusiast?? Or is anyone ready to join the ranks?

Thanks so much for sharing! I’m unemployed and in between searching for jobs/reading blogs, I get kind of bored. This would be a great way to channel some energy! Definitely going to look into this :)

What a great idea! I absolutely love baking, but never know what to do with all the results – I certainly don’t want to eat them all myself! I’m gonna go look into this now…

I love this idea! I have been resisting the urge to bake for a while because I didn’t want to have it all sitting around my house, this sounds like the perfect solution! And something nice I can do for people who are giving up a lot.

Oh Mrs. Lemon (yes, you will always be Lemon to me) I want to reach through the interwebz and hug you! I just signed up for my first round – I don’t know which teams you’re on, but Team Lovin from the Oven is baking for my friend’s fiance and we’re having a baking party at my house in a few weeks. I’m so excited and honored to participate in this event. Don’t forget to join us on our Facebook page too!
