my extraordinary kid

Over the past four years of motherhood, I’ve realized something that’s pretty remarkable. Miss L is an extraordinary kid.

And we’re not talking about her getting a PhD at age 5 extraordinary, but in that every day way that is so special.

Her face lights up with the light of the world when she’s trying new things. I saw it during her soccer lessons this Spring, and I’m watching it now every day in her swim classes. It’s this excitement that builds up into pure joy about learning and mastering new skills.

It’s the imagination and creativity that manifests itself into drawings and block buildings and dramatic scenes played out with her toys. Every day the pictures get more detailed and the stories get more complex and you realize just how much dreaming is going on in that little head!

It’s her love of superheroes and belief that they can save the day. And seeing the magic of the movies in the every day world that surrounds her!

It’s the sense of adventure she has in discovering what’s at the end of a trail as well as exploring everything that she sees along the way. The endless questions that seem to be for the sake of asking them, until she recites all that newly acquired knowledge back at you days or weeks later.

It’s the willingness to take silly photos anywhere and at any time on her own or with her crazy parents.

But most of all, it’s just her ability to be completely and totally herself. She puts herself out there every single day with a bright disposition and tackles every big and small thing the world throws at her.

But it’s not just Miss L. Your kid is extraordinary! Show them how much you enjoy every moment together by creating a special video of your own! You can take a look at the video I made for Miss L by clicking this link.

It’s a video campaign by Stanford Children’s Health to help parents realize that the magic of your child comes from the small moments that maybe only you see — and quietly celebrate every day! And as a former patient who received amazing care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford (and friend to MANY other patients over the years), I’m pretty proud to share this neat campaign with you. Stanford Children’s Health and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford has been the top-ranked children’s hospital in Northern California for over a decade and Stanford Children’s Health is the largest Bay Area healthcare provider with an exclusive focus on children and expectant women.

So go ahead and make a video sharing the wonders of every day celebrations and your extraordinary kid and share it with the world!
