our own Master Yoda
Before we headed to the 4th D23 Expo in Anaheim in mid-August, we received notice that Master Yoda wanted to come along with us for the trip.
Oh wait… what I really meant to say was that Miss L decided to dress up/cosplay as Master Yoda during the second day of the 2015 D23 Expo. Remember that epic Easter basket she had this year? Well, with a bit of creative thinking and quick sewing, we turned it into an epic Star Wars inspired costume.
Before the doors opened, she gladly posed for some photos in front of the convention center as I snapped away. And then, other folks started coming up and asking if they could take her photo as well. Who knew we were just starting the day of cosplay fun.
She took a little rest as we waited for the long line to move inside, but she didn’t have to wait too long to get dressed up again. One of our first stops for the day was the STAR WARS “A Force for Change” booth, so she suited up to wait in line with us for a coveted poster. Someone from the booth saw her and instantly grabbed her away to take some promo photos and videos with their Star Wars stuff. That’s about the time she started to amass quite a few fans as she walked around and was she was more than happy to stop for photo opportunities as they passed by. (Her head was swelling to the size of Yoda’s by this point!)
After that, we went to a couple of presentations, so she removed the costume and stored it away for later. And lucky for her, later was the best part of the day.
Each day the Expo floor hosted a couple of “Jedi Training Academy” sessions. The event was identical to the show that runs each day in Disneyland but open to all Expo attendees. Miss L requests to attend Jedi Training Academy on every Disneyland visit, so when she saw it was happening at the Expo, her reaction was no different. Except this time, she would get to participate as Master Yoda.
With her costume on, the Jedi trainers came over to her before the show began and talked to her as if she was Yoda. And as the show began, and the Jedi master selected the younglings from the audience, he was shocked and surprised to see Master Yoda in the audience.
“Master Yoda! What a surprise! Are you coming to check in on me? I know you certainly don’t need any training!”
And with that, Master Yoda was suddenly a part of the show. He (I mean… she) got to go through all of the practice, and then fought not only Darth Vader, but used the force against the Stormtroopers and fought Darth Maul as well.
Don’t believe me? Here’s a bit of video to prove it!
And then, after the cheering and photo ops from the day, Master Yoda disappeared and Miss L reemerged. It was her first cosplay day and I’m pretty certain after all of that, it won’t be her last!
p.s. Thanks to the OC Register for a little extra love!

What a dream! We’re huge Disney fans, huge Star Wars fans, and huge fans of dressing up.
Star Wars is how I met my husband. He worked at LucasFilm in California and he was my client. They have a great Yoda fountain there.
