i’m just not that into mobsters and vampires…

.
I apologize HBO… but I’m not going to be a fan of Boardwalk Empire. I saw the pilot episode, and it was done amazingly well. I was impressed with the clothing, the light, the sets, the acting, and even the artful way that you dealt with the mob hits. But at the end of the day, I’m just not enthralled by the mobster’s world. I never loved or pitied a Soprano while they were around and  I made my way through Godfather III knowing I just had to find out what happened in the end. Maybe it’s the guns? Or the heavy eastern accents? Something just doesn’t intrigue me about that seedy underworld… and I’ve never been able to put my finger on it.
.
The same goes for Vampires. Another member of the household adores the blood-suckers, but I just get the heebie-jeebies and can never follow along with enough interest for 60 minutes. And to be honest, I can’t keep the different vampire rules straight from one show to the next. Some can walk in the sun, others can live as vegetarians, and sometimes a vampire can bite someone without turning that other person into a vampire. The only unifying factor seems to be the blood and fangs, which is universally creepy for me, so I think I’ll try to outlast this fad as well.
.
I do, however, totally understand geeks & nerds, show choirs, crazy families, and crime novels… so I think I’ll have enough to watch on TV as it is.
.
What are the current TV themes that you don’t get along with?

ugh, i am so sick of vampires and werewolves and rich kids with too much money and time on their hands that get into ridiculous adult type situations. my biggest issue when i was that age was trying to convince my dad to let me go to that week’s football game. sigh. it’s just so far from my life that i don’t even care.

i used to like vampires. when i was in high school and watching buffy the vampire slayer. but you know, i kinda grew out of it. lol

I’m not into the Vampires either. I know they are popular and I tried watching, but it didn’t take. I’m giving Mad Men another try because people love it so much.

Definitely the overwealthy theme. I went to the same school as the creator of Gossip Girls (she graduated a decade before me but still) .and I still can’t bring myself to watch it. I watched 15 minutes of one episode and had to change because it brought back bad memories of high school. I also can’t stand most cop shows (I watch none of the CSIs and stopped watching Law & Order years ago), and I loathe lawyer shows perhaps maybe because I used to be a lawyer. That pretty much gets rid of half of broadcast TV. Also I have tried to watch Glee twice and eventually changed the channel both times. Oh well. I also have been having a very hard time with excessive violence lately including violence propagated by vampires. :)

You beat me to it! I was thinking of posting on this show tonight.
I don’t have the same feelings about gangsters (I’m kind of into the actual historical narratives).
What changed my mind was the show, The Wire. While pretty different the mobsters, still allowed me to see both sides in a way that was a little more complex than good guys and bad guys.
I’m going to give Boardwalk Empire a little more time…

Vampires, on the other hand? no interest. none whatsoever.

I thought I was the only one who wasn’t into vampires!!! I’m also not into all the Jersey shows that are out there now.

I can’t stand Godfather or Goodfellas, and never saw one episode of the Sopranos, so I probably wouldn’t dig this show either. And vampires are fine…as long as they’re not so emo…

I may be the only one in the universe, but I can’t get into Mad Men. It’s so sloooooooooooooooooow and all the conversations draaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggg along… I could admire the costumes and set for about two episodes, but now I’m out!

I absolutely cannot get on the bandwagon of the “real housewives” series of reality shows. I don’t get it. That, and the Kardashians/Jersey Shore/etc. Cant…do…it….
